At GHEI we envision a future where children – free from illness and illiteracy – can realize their full potential, a future where healthy, educated young people will lead their communities out of poverty. Our health and education programs work hand-in-hand to achieve this vision.
"The tour gave me a lot of information & helped me to be creative & have fun. It inspired me to continue education & with a scholarship, I chose to study to be a teacher." Felicity, Former Student
Children from rural Ghana are often raised without believing that university can realistically be a part of their education, so they may have no idea what tertiary education entails, and what opportunities it can open up. As such, aspirations for local children may be limited with regards to pursuing higher education. This tour is inspirational and motivational for them in order to expand their horizons, but is only possible with financial assistance.
To help inspire and motivate local children to reach for the stars and pursue an education that is as full as it can be, each year the Ghana Health and Education Initiative (GHEI) organises a Youth Learning Tour where students can visit sites of cultural and historic importance to help them reflect on the past, as well as visiting a university campus to inspire them to dream big regarding their futures.
Ghana Health and Education Initiative's Youth Learning Tour is a component of our broader education program. Through this wider program, students may be supported financially through senior high school scholarships, ensuring that they are then well placed to take advantage of tertiary education should they wish to. For those who do, their education equips them enormously well to undertake fulfilling and fruitful careers for the remainder of their lives.
